Sydney's Hayes Theatre Co premieres ZOMBIE! The Musical from March 8 to April 6, 2024. Created by the talented Laura Murphy, who serves as both writer and composer-lyricist, the production promises a unique fusion of traditional musical theatre and cult-classic zombie narratives.
Director Darren Yap expressed his excitement about the stellar cast assembled for this innovative production, declaring, "If there ever was a dream cast - alive or dead - I could have in my rehearsal room, I have found them." Led by a diverse ensemble of seasoned performers, including Natalie Abbott, Tamsin Carroll, and Stefanie Jones, the production is poised to captivate audiences with its infectious energy and undead charm.
Natalie Abbott, known for her role in ABC TV's Aftertaste and acclaimed performances in Muriel's Wedding and The Lovers, leads the cast, bringing her signature charm and versatility to the stage. Joining her is musical theatre stalwart Tamsin Carroll, whose credits include the recent Belvoir production of Into The Woods. Ryan Gonzalez, Drew Livingstone and Monique Sallé join rising talent Chelsea Dawson, Nancy Denis, and Adam Di Martino rounding out the ensemble, with each bringing their own unique flair to the production.
ZOMBIE! The Musical transports audiences to a dystopian Sydney, where a dedicated theatre troupe finds themselves caught in the midst of a zombie apocalypse. As the city succumbs to chaos, the characters must grapple with the ultimate question: can the power of musical theatre save humanity from its impending doom?
With a fast-paced, farcical script and an original score that seamlessly blends genres, ZOMBIE! The Musical likely promises a thrilling and comedic experience. Set designer Nick Fry, costume designer Esther Zhong, and lighting designer Verity Hampson collaborate to create an immersive and visually stunning world, while sound designer David Grigg and fight director Tim Dashwood ensure a dynamic and engaging theatrical experience.
