PAULINI DOES 007

Australian vocalist Paulini is set to showcase her versatility in a new concert series celebrating the music of James Bond films alongside 1960s pop classics, marking an intriguing departure from her recent musical theatre roles.

The Music of James Bond & The 60s, produced by Entertainment 23, will see the former Australian Idol finalist tackle songs made famous by vocal powerhouses including Shirley Bassey, Adele, and Dusty Springfield across four Sydney venues beginning this April.

The ambitious program pairs the dramatic orchestral Bond anthems with contemporaneous 60s pop hits from artists like Dionne Warwick and Cilla Black. This highlights the parallel musical developments during a period when film soundtracks and chart music frequently intersected and influenced each other.

Paulini, whose theatrical credits have shown her vocal range in recent years, appears well-positioned to handle the demanding material. The Bond themes in particular require significant technical prowess, with songs like Bassey's Goldfinger serving as benchmarks for theatrical vocal performance.

The production features substantial musical support with an eight-piece band and vocal group The Martinis (featuring Robert Jeffrey, Kai Rule, and Jimmy Rizk), suggesting a commitment to authentically reproducing the often complex arrangements of these classics rather than offering stripped-down interpretations.

This tour will certainly capture multiple audience segments, appealing to film music enthusiasts, 60s nostalgia fans, and followers of Paulini's career. The venue selection is similarly broad, with performances scheduled at diverse locations including Penrith Panthers (April 4), Arthouse Theatre Wyong (May 24), Pavilion Performing Arts Centre Sutherland (June 15), and Norths Cammeray (June 21).

While many artists have attempted Bond theme collections, the addition of the 60s pop catalog brings a fresh dimension to what might otherwise be a more conventional tribute show. For Paulini, the tour represents both a return to her pop roots and a continuation of her evolution as a versatile performer capable of inhabiting different vocal styles and personas.
